Issue 2 February 2017
I hope you are all looking forward to the new season, I know a number of juniors have been braving the winter weather and have played regularly which is great to see.
I have received 10 commitments from members wishing to play competitive matches against other clubs so I have agreed to participate in the Glamorgan Junior League. I will be attending their annual meeting on the 8th March and will attempt to arrange as many fixtures as possible prior to the summer holidays. It woulds suit the club to have these matches on either Friday evenings or Sunday afternoons. If you have confirmed your availability and these are not convenient can you contact me asap. The club will supply team shirts and caps plus a tie to be worn with a white shirt at the post match meals.
I am in the process of purchasing honour boards for the four club competitions and together with a new notice board specifically for the junior section; these will be installed on the walls of the junior lounge.
The existing board outside the pro shop will be used exclusively for information relating to coaching and classes.
A settee and armchair have been promised and await collection. Other furniture will be supplied from existing sources within the club.
I will be happy to receive ideas for making the room more attractive and comfortable with a view to attracting new members and retaining those already with us.
We were hoping to have a juniors open week when all the club competitions would be played but this has proved too difficult to arrange so the Kittle Bakery Cup, Fishermans Cup, Shepherds Spoon and the Southgate Cup will be played throughout the season. When dates are agreed the competitions will be advertised both on the website and the junior notice board.
There are tee times allocated to juniors on Sunday afternoons. Please contact the pro shop to ensure you have a satisfactory slot. The pro shop will be happy to arrange a stableford competition on Sunday afternoons if the demand is there.
I hope to organise a junior meeting in early April where I the junior captain Josh Bateman, members of the coaching staff and the club manager will be available to answer any questions you or your parents may have, and to discuss how the section can move forward in a positive way for the benefit of all.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any ideas on how we can make your visits to the club a more satisfying experience as I and the golf committee are determined to make the junior section a vibrant and integral part of the club.
I hope to see and meet as many of the junior members as I can either at the early season meeting or during the course of the season.
